Photography
Photography is a hobby, something which gives me a little bit of a creative outlet. I tend to favour imagery with people in it, even of landscape or buildings as people give a sense of scale and also some context to the image.
I like to experiment with various styles of photography from portrait to landscape, from street to wildlife.
I try to take at least one course or group session a month, either though a Meetup Group or through one of a few photography course groups I favour, including 36exp and London School of Photography
Equipment wise, I shoot with a Nikon DSLR, and generally with prime lenses, but have recently purchased a Leica Q3, shooting mainly street and travel on its gorgeous 29 mm fixed lens.
I also read quite extensively on and around the subject of photography, either biographies of photographers I admire, or sometimes on slightly more abstract themes such as creativity.
2024
Pre-pandemic most of my photogrpahy was studio and flash based. I even upgraded my flash equipment with the purchase of some Elinchrom ELB500 lights and two rotolights.
However since the pandemic, my focus has been much more on street and travel photography.
Street is easier in the sense that you don’t need to hire a studio or space, but is still challenging as there is so much that you can’t control.
I am still developing…. I hesitate to say as an artist, but that is what I aspire to be, to find my own voice and to speak out loud.
